Vision
The University of Health Sciences Antigua is a professionally-oriented
institution, which is (i.) unique in the effective utilization of information
technology in supporting and complementing the educational delivery activities
of the institution to students globally, (ii.) second to none in extending
education to working health care professionals such as Nurses, Physician
Assistants, etc. in an effort to globally increase the number of primary health
care physicians practicing in the rural and medically under-served areas around
the world, including the United States and (iii.) outstanding in the use of
innovative instructional methodologies and didactic methods in the teaching of
medical and Agricultural Sciences as well as Liberal Arts and
Sciences.
Mission
The University of Health Sciences Antigua
(UHSA), located at Dowhill Campus, Piccadilly in Antigua is an outstanding,
privately endowed institution that is in constant pursuit of excellence in
teaching, research and community services. Further, the University educates for
life, provides continuing education to working professionals and addresses
national, regional and international challenges in medical, agricultural and
liberal sciences.

Antigua practices transparency and openness in its management. It provides a
caring and respectful environment for all members of UHSA s family, i.e.
students, staff, faculty and Trustees. In addition, the University nurtures an
intellectual climate, motivates and rewards excellence, and attracts and retains
professionals and academics of high caliber.
UHSA continuously explores
the frontiers of higher education through the utilization of advanced
communication and information technologies for the purpose of extending tertiary
education to various parts of the world. In this respect, the UHSA continues to
serve the global community by addressing the acute shortage of medical doctors
through special programs which create opportunities for the training of
physicians in developing countries and through special incentives that motivate
doctors to serve in rural/medically under-served areas. Also, we continue to
make determined efforts to utilize these tools to equalize access of rural
population groups to improved primary healthcare and food
sufficiency.
The UHSA vigorously pursues the introduction of
development-oriented continuing education programs with a view to empowering the
global community through university education in acquiring life-long skills,
knowledge and potential for self- development and in particular, to enable
working professionals to acquire higher medical and agricultural
education.
The UHSA programs continue to be relevant to the developmental
imperatives of the geo-political regions in which it is located and to which it
belongs. Hence, we are at the forefront of research directed towards solutions
of human and social problems in these regions, most especially the control of
devastating, debilitating and endemic diseases as well as acute shortages of
food and malnutrition.
The UHSA continues to be outstanding in
professional and community services. In recognition of our geo-political
location, we must organize our professional and community services for the
purpose of redressing past imbalances and eliminating disparities between the
developed and developing regions of the world, especially in the areas of
primary health care and food sufficiency. It is central to our mission that our
professional and community services are people-oriented, efficient, and relevant
to societal development. Above all, UHSA collaborates with institutions and
organizations globally to ensure that science and technology benefit humanity. |
