Greetings, and welcome to the web site of Atlantic School of Theology.
Attractively situated on the shore of the Northwest Arm in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
Atlantic School of Theology has been a leader in ecumenical theological
education since its founding in 1971.
As a school, we have always sought
to be responsive to the needs of the church, of our students, and of the wider
society we are all called to serve. Our students are enrolled in a variety of
programs that reflect the diverse needs of our constituency. These include
programs centered on our campus here in Halifax, as well as full programs of
study designed to enable students to study at a distance utilizing the resources
of the the Internet.
We have a young and energetic faculty committed both
to the highest levels of theological scholarship, and to the health and well
being of the church. As the context for the church's ministry changes, we have
renewed our curriculum to reflect the changing needs of today's church. Most
recently we have refocused our mission to provide "transformational leadership
for the church and for the world." We believe this is an exciting development
and hope you will want to be a part of it.
Our affiliation with Saint
Mary's University strengthens our ability to prepare students to lead their
church's engagement with the world around us. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in
Public Affairs (CCEPA) is one joint initiative that is bringing a theological
contribution to the discussion of the significant contemporary issues that shape
our society. We are also in the process of developing a joint MA that would
allow students to benefit from the strengths of both institutions.
We
hope that your visit to this site will spark your interest in the work of AST.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Hope to see you
here! Eric B. Beresford President |
