Brescia is Canada s women s university. We were founded in 1919 by the
Ursuline Sisters, strong women of faith who are committed to social justice,
community service, and the development of women. While our roots are in the
Catholic faith, we are open to - and embrace - women of all faiths.
Brescia is affiliated with The University of Western Ontario, the
third-largest university in the province. That means you ll benefit from the
small, supportive atmosphere at Brescia while still enjoying the resources
Western has to offer.
In addition to Brescia, you may take classes with
men and women at Western s main campus, Huron, and King s University Colleges.
When you graduate, your degree will be granted by Western.
At
Brescia, you ll: - Have endless opportunities to enhance your leadership
skills - Benefit from an exceptional education that is tailored to you and
the way you learn best - Learn from compassionate professors who will mentor
- and empower - you - Feel comfortable to openly share your opinions and
ideas - in the classroom and beyond - Bond with women who share your desire
to be truly educated and to make a difference in the world
Mission
Statement Brescia University College is a student-centred community that
educates women to think critically and to participate actively in society. A
Catholic college in the Ursuline tradition, we prepare our graduates to respond
with wisdom, justice and compassion to a changing world.
Vision
Statement Brescia will be the university college of choice for women seeking
an inclusive community of learning that combines academic excellence with
opportunity for service and leadership.
History For 90 years,
Brescia has provided the milieu in which thousands of women have received
unparalleled opportunities for leadership and self-discovery while absorbing the
values of volunteerism and compassion.
The Ursuline Sisters of Chatham
began the story in 1919, founding Brescia as a liberal arts college for women
and creating an intimate learning experience that encouraged students to think
creatively and critically about the world. Today's committed professors and
staff continue this legacy by fostering the development of analytical skills and
communication expertise that enables Brescia students to take leadership roles
in Canadian society.
The College maintains its Catholic identity,
recognizing that faith and mature spirituality are the bedrock on which lives of
service and achievement are built. Students continue to find common cause in
social justice initiatives, an ongoing legacy of our Ursuline heritage. |
