Our History The original, enduring Loyalist Pioneers settled
along the northern, serene shores of Lake Ontario and built prominent
communities across eastern Ontario. Like its namesake, Loyalist College is
recognized for its strong, pioneering presence, community resolve,
determination, and forward thinking leaders.
Loyalist College officially
opened its doors in 1967 in a local high school and by 1968 had a permanent home
along Wallbridge-Loyalist road. Two years later, the demand for more space and
resourceful teaching, led to the construction of the Lennox and Addington Wing
to house the School of Technology and Retraining.
By 1985, further
additions to both the building and college curriculum included innovative
programs such as Photojournalism, Television Broadcasting, and Health Sciences
and also witnessed a vital linking of the First Nations Technical Institute of
Tyendinaga. Thanks in large part to all these great advances, Loyalist College
proudly claims an impressive 97% from Loyalist graduates who would recommend the
college to their peers! Loyalist continues to strive for these impressive
standings and now ranks among the top colleges in Canada.
Today, the
Loyalist name prominently graces the doors at Loyalist College, in Belleville,
Ontario and continues to grow, improve and lead the way for post-secondary
education. To usher in the new millennium, further groundbreaking programs have
been added, and the residences continue to expand to accommodate not only
Canadian students, but also an increasing number of International students. |
