Welcome to Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. As you prepare to begin your first
semester of university study, I urge you to take advantage of the many sources
of activity, experience and advice that will be available to you.
In the
classroom, the laboratory or the studio, you will be exposed to ideas and
methods across a variety of disciplines. Learning how to understand, apply,
criticize and communicate these is a major part of your academic task. This is
both challenging and rewarding, and there is considerable support to help you
succeed in your studies. Individual professors, the staff of the Learning
Centre, and the many academic support personnel of the College are all
approachable and will work to help you take full advantage of what Grenfell has
to offer.
The Grenfell College Student Union will provide opportunities
for you to become involved in many aspects of College life, including social and
cultural events, community activities and university governance. These
experiences will enable you to develop your skills as a citizen and a leader,
and further prepare you for future challenges as a university graduate.
I
encourage you to participate fully in the life of the College. Learn how to
evaluate and challenge ideas, to construct persuasive arguments for your point
of view, and to solve problems both theoretically and practically. Take
advantage of this time to learn in depth, and explore fully the many
opportunities that will emerge.
I wish you every success, and look
forward to meeting you in the near future.
Yours sincerely, E. Holly
Pike, Ph.D. Principal |
