The Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus is a state institution under the auspices of
the Danish Ministry of Culture, charged with responsibility for the further
education courses in music, and for otherwise contributing to the promotion of
musical culture in Denmark.
The courses have been given the highest
status, both nationally and internationally. This means that they measure up to
the best comparable courses on offer abroad. We train students for careers as
professional musicians, and, depending on the course taken, students graduate
either as solo performers or as music teachers.
The emphasis of the
teaching is on solo work with an instrument or the voice, but there is also
ensemble playing and a number of supplementary subjects. For those studying to
become music teachers, particular importance is attached to music pedagogy and
communicative subjects. Our corps of teachers is active and committed, and we
expect our students to exhibit the same qualities. We are flexible, but we
attach importance to discipline and cooperation as important elements in the
training of professional musicians and music teachers.
The academy has
several international activities. Read more.
The facilities: The
departments have six large halls: one large hall that is used for symphonic
music and musical drama, one smaller hall for chamber music, two halls with
special acoustics for rhythmic music and two halls designed especially for
dancing and activities for larger groups of people. About 75 teaching and
practice rooms, of various sizes, form the day-to-day workplace for the teachers
and students. We also have a number of special facilities including a library, a
music library, a record library, a listening room and a canteen.
The
audio technology department maintains all the audio technology equipment, and
regularly documents the academy s activities with the help of its 2 modern
recording studios. Moreover, the department is able to help with sound/video
recording when the academy participates in international competitions, and in
special teaching situations, master classes, etc. All the rooms are equipped
with the relevant instruments. Furthermore, we have a considerable collection of
instruments that the students can borrow.
A special department of the
academy is DIEM, Denmarks national centre for electronic music. DIEM has two
fully professionally equipped soundstudios especially designed for artistic work
and research in the electronic music field. |
