Welcome to the Fiji Institute of Technology and thank you for visiting our
website.
At FIT, we take pride in providing a broad range of high quality
programs that will prepare graduates extremely well for the various career
options that they may have in mind.
From its humble beginning in 1963 as
a provider of technical and vocational education aimed at training students in
technical disciplines to meet the engineering human resource needs of Fiji, FIT
has evolved to providing education to cater for the total human resource needs
of Fiji and the South Pacific.
Now, professional, technical and academic
courses at certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and degree levels are being
offered at FIT through the Faculty of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism Studies
(FCHTS), the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Engineering and Maritime Studies
(FASEMS) and the Faculty of Humanities, Communications and Creative Arts
(FHCCA).
Today, FIT has over 20,000 students enrolled in over 120
programmes at our campuses in Suva, Ba, Nadi and Labasa. It is now the largest
face-to-face deliverer of tertiary education in the South Pacific. With
excellent workshops, continuing facilities development, and highly affordable
quality programmes, the FIT is now a first choice institution for tertiary
education in Fiji. The vibrant student community draws from Fiji and Pacific
Island regional nations.
During 2009, the FIT established three research
centres, aimed at advancing core clusters of research that are relevant to Fiji
and the Pacific. The Centre for Applied Economic Research aims to undertake
applied research in all areas related to economic development of Fiji. The
Centre for Sustainable Technology and Development is aimed at enhancing research
and development work in all areas of technology for development. The Centre for
Drama and Creative Arts is aimed at enhancing all aspects of drama and visual &
creative arts. We hope that our research will contribute to the knowledge bank
that is necessary for finding innovative solutions to pressing national and
regional problems.

world class education and training . To achieve this, FIT plans to offer
programmes and courses at all levels to be made available at the doorstep

We want to take the training to where the people are to all parts of
Fiji as well as the region. FIT s profile has been significantly raised by
attracting highly qualified staff and offering of wider range and higher level
of courses from Certificate to undergraduate degree and even to postgraduate
diploma level.
