Welcome to the University of Lapland!
Our university, located in
Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland, is an international, multidisciplinary institution
whose areas of expertise include Arctic affairs and tourism research. Teaching
and research at the University centre on northern and Arctic issues, tourism,
art and design, law, education and the social sciences.
We have turned
out every fourth lawyer in Finland, every third university-educated expert in
art and design, more than ten per cent of the social scientists and nearly ten
percent of the educational professionals. Our graduates occupy responsible
positions in society and business throughout Finland and around the
world.
The University s research, educational and artistic activities
support the communities, businesses and society at large in northern Finland.
Our multidisciplinary research facility, the Artic Centre, conducts
internationally recognised, cutting-edge research on the interaction between
people and the environment in the Arctic, and presents this work in lay terms
for visitors to its Science Centre Exhibition. Our degree programmes in tourism
and art and design further enhance the creative economy of the North.
As
our mission statement says, the work we do here is geared to benefiting both the
North and the world at large.
