A school recognized and acknowledged
L École de design Nantes
Atlantique is a private higher education institution founded in 1988 and still
managed by the Nantes Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
750 students are
currently enrolled in the school.
The 5-year curriculum is state-approved
and its diploma is certified by the Ministry of Higher Education. The school is
a member of the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and of the Cumulus network
(an international association of universities and colleges of art, design and
media).
Each year an average of 10 to 20 pupils win national and
international design awards. Graduates work for multi-national corporations
(Lego, Kenwood, Décathlon, Smoby, Seb, Maped, Aigle), as well as agencies or
companies all over France.
A wide range of training courses
The
5-year curriculum leads to a Designer s Degree certified by the French Ministry
of Higher Education and is divided into four majors : Product Design, Spatial
Design, Interaction Design and Graphic Design.
The 2-year curriculums (in
apprenticeship) lead to a vocational training certificate which is a Level III
Diploma recognized by the State (BTS). The school provides three different
vocational training courses : BTS in Spatial Design, BTS in Product Design and
BTS in Wood Building Systems for Housing and Industrial Construction. All these
training courses are supervised by our newly founded Vocationnal Training Center
(CFA) dedicated to industrial innovation and creation.
The continuing
education in Interaction Design is aimed at professionals eager to further their
skills in the field of web-design.
An international class (3rd year of
the 5-year curriculum) takes in foreign exchange students sent by our partner
universities and schools.
Please note that foreign exchange students are
not entitled to attend the other trainings.
Project-based method : a
teaching approach where both theory and practice are applied to a concrete set
of challenges.
The students learn to integrate and put into practice the
knowledge and skills necessary for their future profession. This is done by
working on projects that have either been proposed by the school or set up in
collaboration with companies or other institutions.
Each year the school
counts :
25 new business partnerships,
800 projects,
35
designers and international consultants.
Training designers with
leadership abilities
Professional designers and teachers specialized in
fields such as human sciences, marketing and technology bring students to a
managerial level of competence. The teaching staff helps students reach this
expertise by spurring them to grow gradually more independent, to work within a
team, to deal with more and more complex situations and above all to anticipate
the needs of our society.
Teachers and course leaders at L École de
design spur students to address contemporary issues related to societal and
social developments. To cope with worldwide competition the school is actively
furthering its fields of excellence, and therefore decided to reorganize its
fourth and fifth year programs around six cross-disciplinary themes :
Ethically responsible innovation
Tangible interfaces
New
eating habits
Mutations of the built environment
Cross-cultural design
Virtual reality (in collaboration with Arts
et Métiers ParisTech)
New mobility
Outlooks : technology
watch and design strategies at the service of companies.
Thanks to its
open-minded management-oriented policy and the impressive gamut of human and
technical expertise it disposes of, the school has become an acknowledged centre
for technology watch and industry forecasts.
The school strikes up
partnerships with companies in many different ways :
work placements :
3rd and 5th year students are hired by companies as trainees,
prospective
studies conducted in collaboration with companies and integrated into a project
based teaching method,
symposiums enabling designers and companies to
meet and share ideas,
